Nikon D40

I’ve been researching a new DSLR for several weeks now and I finally decided on the Nikon D40. For awhile I’ve been wanting to get back into photography and start learning more about that medium. I’m not that accomplished, pretty much the only training I’ve had is one B&W photography class and a short time spent as a photographer for an event photography company while attending Baylor, but I’ve always enjoyed the process of taking photos.

It took me while to decide on the D40. At first I was going to get the Canon Rebel XTi, but after talking to several of my friends who have Nikons and holding both cameras in my hand, I decided to join the Nikon family. It arrives tomorrow and I can’t wait to get my hands on it. One of the great things about working here in Austin is that I’m downtown everyday, so I plan on heading out during lunchtime to explore the city and take photos. I plan on posting up on my Flickr page much more often now as well as highlighting various shots on my blog from time to time. I have a lot to learn, but it should be a good time.

Good choice! I have been shooting with Nikon since ‘98 when I got the N50. I don’t have any complaints but of course the Nikon-Cannon debate is a lot like Colgate vs Crest, mostly its about preference. I would recommend Scott Kelby’s book The Digital Photography Book, it is a good mix of simple suggestions and advance techniques, it was a great starter for me when I switched to digital. How are the istock videos going? Take it easy.

Jake thanks for the book recommendation. I’ve been thinking about picking up a couple of books to help educate me on technique. As for the iStock stuff, I decided to pass on it for now, but depending on how the photography stuff goes I might get back into it.
