Not sure how I missed this one. Pitchfork, a well-known and respected review site for independent music, apparently launched Pitchfork.tv back in April. I’ve frequented Pitchfork over the past several years and have somewhat of a love/hate relationship with them. They are known for their brutally honest reviews and don’t hand out high ratings unless they are well deserved. I don’t always agree with them, but their site does offer tremendous insight into the indie music scene and has often given me the heads-up on new music to check out.
So Pitchfork.tv I find out this morning is an extension of their coverage on independent music and (I’m sure you’ve guessed) serves up videos from various indie artists. In addition, they produce a few shows such as interviews with artists and special presentations by bands. As luck would have it they have the entire Scotch Mist webcast that Radiohead streamed on New Years Eve of last year. You can watch all 10 performances if that sounds interesting to you. On a side note, those same videos are available as podcasts in the iTunes library as well, which might be more favorable than spending an hour or so at work watching Radiohead performances, but that’s your call.
Hopefully this endeavor by Pitchfork expands their coverage to a much larger audience, especially since it fits in perfectly with the “streaming-video-bandwagon” that’s taking the net by storm. It should be fun to watch.
