D90 | D-Movie

Recently Nikon announced a new D-SLR to their line-up, the D90. This is an upgrade from their very popular D80 and while the specs offer various updates that are worth discussing, the most significant update to me has to be the ability to shoot HD video. When I heard about the inclusion of this feature I was skeptical and still am to a degree, but these videos that Nikon released showing the D90s video capabilities look promising.

The key to all of this is the fact that you have an interchangeable lens camera that can shoot HD video. That combination opens up so many doors to be able to shoot in low light situations, adjust the depth of field (something that consumer grade HD camcorders don’t do well at all), and integrate special effect lenses such as a telephoto or fisheye.

I can see this being the first step in a shift in the D-SLR market. The technology in these cameras is only going to get smaller and more powerful.
