Joshua Lane’s recently updated site is fantastic. I’m a big fan of the nav structure, the symmetry and centered branding. Also that background pattern is elegant and Joshua nails it with the slightly darker stroke around the floral shapes.

Tilt-shift video has become fairly trendy recently and as with any effect, overdone at times. This video shot by Sam O’Hare is one of the best executions of tilt-shift I’ve seen yet. I think what sells it for me is that Sam is telling a story rather than showing off a new effect. He captures a glimpse into the daily lives of New Yorkers & pairs it with an upbeat soundtrack to match the sped-up movements of the “miniatures”. The close-ups and nighttime shots are especially noteworthy. Beautiful stuff!
Saw this awhile ago but forgot to post it. Fun video showing how the housing market has spiraled out of control. The transitions and builds are clever and I like how the animator chose to keep the aesthetic very “Money For Nothing“. Scratches that 3D itch again.
SXSWi is little over a week away and I’m really looking forward to attending. To coincide with it’s 6th anniversary and the conference, Springbox is planning an open house on Monday, March 15th. If you’re planning on attending SXSWi or know someone who works at Springbox (waving back at you), then head over to the site and RSVP. You’ll have a chance to check out our offices, get an idea of what we do day to day and enjoy some free drinks and entertainment. Do it!
The work of Brian Michael Gossett | Since78 has been making the rounds over the past few days and after looking through his portfolio it’s obvious why he’s getting this deserved attention. The work is impressive, varying from illustrative to heavily composited and all tied together through careful typographic choices. Bookmarked for sure.
This week my meetings have been low and interruptions at a minimum, so I’ve been spending a good amount of time working and listening to music. Several months ago my brother sent me another mix of songs for me to listen to and I haven’t really been giving them much attention until recently. They’re all great and it’s hard to nail down which ones to share, but here are a few tracks that stood out to me:
Flunk – “On My Balcony”
Flunk – “Six Seven Times”
Frou Frou – “Hear Me Out”
Lali Puna – “Bi-Pet”
Thievery Corporation – “The Mirror Conspiracy”
Red House Painters – “Void”
