If I could pursue a different visual field for a living I would absolutely explore the world of visual effects and compositing. Catching a glimpse at what’s involved and achieved in this video for HBO’s series John Adams gets me all excited.

Bernard takes video of buildings & ships and distorts/mirrors them which makes them look like spaceships. Pretty creative idea. My favorites are the ones at night which start about halfway through.
Voting for next year’s SXSW panels opened this week. I submitted an idea called Collaboration Nation: How Side-Projects Can Keep You Relevant that will discuss topics such as ways to collaborate, how to balance a side project amidst your work and home life, and how the process of working on something for yourself can be personally and professionally rewarding. If that sounds interesting to you then I’d greatly appreciate you taking a few minutes to vote for it.
There have been more submissions this year than ever before and browsing through all of the options is daunting. Noah recently posted a few that caught his eye and I’d recommend checking them out as I think they sound solid as well. In addition several of my coworkers at Springbox submitted proposals that cover a variety of topics.
Next year will be my 4th SXSW and I’m already looking forward to it. It’s 5 full days of content and conversations. Go if you haven’t before!
While browsing for some new desktop wallpapers I checked back over on 50FootShadows and found these beautiful iPhone 4 wallpapers sized for the retina display. John’s wallpapers have always been a favorite of mine and I’m looking forward to trying some of these out on my iPhone.
A splash page for Method & Craft, a site I’m currently building, went live yesterday. Doesn’t show too much, but it does provide a small glimpse into what it’s focus will be. I’m excited about the progress I’m making and have to thank Noah Stokes, Trent Walton, and Gerren Lamson for their insight along the way (as well as Noah’s coding mastery). There’s more to come on this. Follow @methodandcraft for the latest developments.
Came across Laurent’s work via Cameron Moll and just fell in love with these photos of the Le Mans Classic. He nailed not only the post processing but the angles. Some of them look almost like stills from a 1970’s film.
Came across “…and these are the days” this morning and it reminded me of the Tumblr site I set up long ago, but haven’t touched in 3 months. I set up that site after seeing Tumblr sites popping up from people posting iPhone pics of their daily life. I also wanted to try out the Tumblr iPhone app which I heard good things about. I tried it and then lost interest (apologies to my 2 lonely followers….why are you still here?). But after seeing this site today and now that I have the much more capable iPhone 4 camera, I might be inspired to start that up again. Just don’t hold me to it.
