Art of the Title
Let me start off by apologizing to those of you out there whom I'm about to single-handedly steal time away from more important things you have to do. I'm sorry and you're welcome. Thanks to Khoi Vinh, I've come across a new favorite site that is already bookmarked, subscribed to, and gained my affection in only a matter of minutes. Art of the Title is a site devoted to movie title sequences and features video clips, commentary and occasionally interviews. The catalogue of titles is impressive and will no doubt take some time to peruse. Enjoy! -
PAUSE
I'd love to attend a conference like PAUSE at some point. This list of presenters alone warrants reason to go as it includes some of the most respected and influential directors and motion graphics creators in the industry. If you visit the PAUSE site you can click on view showreels and work examples of these directors. Out of this list my favorites are Digital Kitchen, Buck, Mark Romanek and Joseph Kosinski...who is one of my favorite directors of all time. Kosinski has an eye for design that makes me very jealous. The Ronin
I'm a big fan of Rob Chiu's work (aka The Ronin) and have written a few times about some of his projects. He's quickly becoming one of my favorite motion designers. He is also a very gifted photographer and when comparing his still and motion portfolios, you can tell that his design style carries over throughout his work. He's carving out a niche in design conference show titles and this one for Flash on the Beach is incredible. The visuals are almost haunting and his timing to the audio provided by Hecq is perfect. Video Copilot
Prior to working at Springbox I spent a good portion of my design time in After Effects. I've always enjoyed the arena of motion graphics and even though I don't use AE too much these days, I still check out the latest motion work via sites like Motionographer and hope I have more opportunities to continue to learn that art form. Fringe Location Titles
Last night the series premiere of Fringe aired on Fox. Fringe is a new sci-fi thriller/drama that is another product of J.J. Abrams and Co. This show has gained a fair amount of buzz given it's tie with Abrams and so I figured I'd check it out. The premise of the show is interesting and last night's premiere was pretty good, but I wasn't blown away. Still, I think it's worth following for a bit to see how it pans out as the idea is solid and the cast features enough talent to encourage me to stay. But what stood out to ... -

Coldplay iTunes Commercial - Update
After writing this article I've had a few people ask if I knew which design agency is behind the new Apple commercial. After doing some digging I discovered that it was in fact TBWA/Chiat/Day who developed the commercial. TBWA/Chiat/Day are an ad agency that Apple has been working with dating all the way back to the classic 1984 ad. As I dug a little deeper I found out that design agency Logan produced the creative for the commercial and shared directing responsibilities with Mark Romanek.
