Objectified: A Documentary Film
While browsing my usual feeds today I found this post by Jason Santa Maria about the website he did for Gary Hustwit's new film Objectified. Hustwit is the man behind last year's documentary Helvetica, a film dedicated to the life and influence of the famous typeface. I found Helvetica to be a fascinating film and the synopsis behind Objectified looks like it will be just as interesting. Objectified takes a look at the world of industrial design and explores the creativity behind the everyday objects we use in our lives. Radiohead “House of Cards” Video
This is ridiculous. Radiohead released a "video" for their song "House of Cards" and in typical Radiohead fashion it breaks away from the norm. The story is Thom's face was scanned and then interpolated by what looks like millions of points of data which are then displayed in 3D space. You can pan around and view the data as the song plays and Thom sings. It doesn't look like the used the entire song, just a section of it but it's still very impressive. -
Coldplay iTunes Commercial - Update
After writing this article I've had a few people ask if I knew which design agency is behind the new Apple commercial. After doing some digging I discovered that it was in fact TBWA/Chiat/Day who developed the commercial. TBWA/Chiat/Day are an ad agency that Apple has been working with dating all the way back to the classic 1984 ad. As I dug a little deeper I found out that design agency Logan produced the creative for the commercial and shared directing responsibilities with Mark Romanek. Romanek is an accomplished director who's credits include the music video for "Closer" by NIN, the video of the cover of NIN's ... -
The Black Cab Sessions
One Song. One Take. One Cab. This wins as the coolest thing I've found on the net today and that's saying a lot because it's been a pretty awesome day in that respect already. The Black Cab Sessions features filmed performances of musicians playing one of their songs in the back seat of a black cab. Mostly done with acoustic guitars, these performances are brilliant because they are raw with an impromptu feel. Also, a tip of the hat goes to the site designer, particularly for the hand-drawn rearview mirror graphic that wraps the videos. Very clever. -
Pitchfork.tv
Not sure how I missed this one. Pitchfork, a well-known and respected review site for independent music, apparently launched Pitchfork.tv back in April. I've frequented Pitchfork over the past several years and have somewhat of a love/hate relationship with them. They are known for their brutally honest reviews and don't hand out high ratings unless they are well deserved. I don't always agree with them, but their site does offer tremendous insight into the indie music scene and has often given me the heads-up on new music to check out. Coldplay iTunes Commercial
I don't watch American Idol, but I heard that during last night's show Apple showcased a new iTunes commercial showcasing one of Coldplay's new songs, "Viva La Vida". It's quickly making the rounds today online and it's gorgeous. Playing up on Apple's classic silhouette ads, the commercial features Coldplay performing their new song surrounded by almost OSX Leopard inspired light blooms and wisps of color. It's videos like this that make me want to play more with motion graphics. It's also commercials like this that show just how much more kick ass Apple is at marketing than their competitors.
