Apple Patents

AppleInsider has an interesting article showcasing some recent patents made by Apple. These patents show that Apple has been working on ideas for a 3D OS X user interface. The 2D “desktop” style of interacting with a computer has seen little revision since it’s introduction. Obviously the major players in the OS market are hesitant to introduce change at such a fundamental level. Not that it won’t eventually happen though. Multi-touch is gaining ground and is probably the most significant UI introduction since the desktop was born. On some levels we have Minority Report to thank for that.

Apple has always been the major front-runner in terms of computer/OS innovation, so seeing these kinds of ideas coming out of the patent office is not surprising. At the same time, tons of patents are filed that never see the light of day or take years to come to fruition. Regardless, I think we’re nearing a pivotal point of change in how we interact with our computers and it’s exciting.

Why Google Created “My Maps”

So that some random dude can plot out the events that took place in the movie Cloverfield. Classic.

Blur Reunite

A bittersweet piece of news today. One of my favorite Britpop bands Blur are reuniting for a concert this summer. On July 3rd (Ethan’s 1st birthday!) Blur will be performing a massive concert at Hyde Park, London…which is why this news is bittersweet. I can’t think of any feasible way to make it over there for that, but that would be a historical show to attend.

In the meantime, I’ll be spinning their albums and watching videos on YouTube. This on especially, definitely a classic video and song:

HYPE

Just found out that photographer Eric Ryan Anderson will be at HYPE on December 22nd. I really admire Ryan’s work and would love the chance to go to this event if I was able to pull away from Houston to spend an evening in Dallas. If you’re going to be in the city that continuously confuses me on the 22nd then I’d suggest checking out HYPE. Proceeds go to Sower of Seeds International Ministries Inc.

Play Auditorium

Auditorium is a flash based, puzzle-solving game built around audio and physics. It was Friday’s Site of the Day at the FWA and is one of the most addictive games I’ve played in awhile. It’s also beautiful to watch the particles zoom around the screen and create music.

Growing Creatives

This is a hilarious video. A behind-the-scenes tour of an award-winning “creative” farm. So well done and so very true.

Now…off to have to my ego massaged.
